Saque un libro de la biblioteca que contiene unos 500 autorretratos de artistas de todas las épocas, desde el antiguo Egipto hasta la actualidad(Edición Phaidon). Muy completo, muy interesante. Siempre me ha atraído el autorretrato. La introducción del libro por Julian Bell me gustó mucho y aquí os pongo las primeras palabras:
"Tengo una cara, pero mi cara no soy yo. Tras ella hay una mente que tú no ves pero que te observa. Esta cara, que tú ves y yo no, es un medio del que dispongo para expresar algo de lo que soy. O al menos eso parece hasta que me vuelvo hacia el espejo. Entonces puede parecer que mi cara me pertenece, que se enfrenta a mí como una apariencia a la que estoy ligado [...]"
Muchísimos artistas han querido o han tenido la necesitad de representarse a sí mismo. Para plasmar sus inquietudes, enfrentarse a su imagen, dejar un testimonio de quien son o quieren ser. Sobre todo pinturas o dibujos, pero también esculturas, fotografías, collage, etc. son presentes en esta maravillosa colección de obras poderosas y evocadoras.
Os enseño algunas de las que me gustaron mucho.

I show you some selfportraits I really liked while reading a book dedicated to the art of selfportrait. It is a collection of 500 selfportraits chronologically ordered from Old Egypt until now.
I have always been fascinated by selfportait. A mysterious and introspective art. The introduction of the book by Julian Bell is really good and I will try to translate the firt sentences the best I can (the book was in Spanish):
"I have a face, but my face is not me. Behind this face there is a mind that you don't see but that observes you. This face, which you see and I don't, is a way I have to express something of what I am. Or at least, it seems to be until I look at the mirror. Then it may seem that my face belongs to me, like an appearance to which I am bound[...]"
Well, not sure is a good trabslation but I hope you have caught the idea!
I show you my first selfportrait (made 2 years ago with pastels). It is not a "real" one since it has been made from a picture where I was smiling...not really powerful neither introspective!

La primera frase describe a mi abuela. Ella tiene 92años y se encuentra estupendamente, pero no le gusta mirarse al espejo. Sencillamente no se reconoce, la mujer que ve es mucho más vieja que la que piensa. Es una mujer muy especial.Marta
Que guapa Alex! no lo había visto...supongo que hacer un autoretrato es todo un reto...sobretodo porque muchas veces lo que vemos no se corresponde con lo que sentimos que somos.
