DIY: earings and brooches with shrink plastic

For Christmas, i wanted to make little handmade gifts and i decided to work with shrink plastic.
It was a long time since i wanted to give it a try. And i absolutely loved it!

It is very easy to use, there is (almost) no secret. I bought mine here (with some more goodies...). There is the white and the frosty shrink plastic. I prefer the white one because depending on your design, the frosty one does not give good results.
For the pieces i show you here, i just printed the plastic sheet with my inkjet printer and let it dry. Then i cut the shapes and punched it if necessary. I put them in the oven (following the instructions) just a minute or two (I tried with the heat gun but it is very hard to control because the plastic moves and "flies" all around...i ended burning it). When removing the pieces still hot from the oven, i flatten them with a flat metallic mould i had on hand. I finally added the silver parts to make the earings and brooch. Voilá!

Why is it fun?: because you just draw and cut it (it is as thin as a plastic sheet) and you end with a thick and sturdy piece (yet light). The possibilities are endless!

Because the plastic shrink at least 50% of its size you really need to print your design (or stamp, or draw) taking it into account. I just ordered one sheet for a trial and i need to buy more now. I have plans...

Tengo planes...
